From the menu: The best new restaurants of the year

This restaurant cooks everything Thai-even the rice-pretty authentically and also offers a nice selection of continental cuisine. Ingredients taste fresh and flavorful and the presentation is colorful. Try the spicy chicken meatballs with sweet chili sauce and panang curry pork with coconut milk, chili, lemon leaves and rice. Lemon Leaf has earned some loyal customers, and deservedly so. The service is surprisingly fast and friendly.

ELLE

Lemon Leaf,je nejen název nové pražské restaurace, ale též důležitá ingredience thajské kuchyně, u nás dříve nedostupná. Dnes ji můžeme ochutnat třeba v tradičních polévkách Tom Ka Kai a Tom Yam Kai, protože majitelé podniku Jirka a Aleš jiné než originální ingredience pro přívpravu thajských jídel nepoužívají. "Thajci jsou požitkáři, mají lahodná jídla, já tam léta jezdím a navíc mám thajskou pořítelkyni, která dobrému jídlu rozumí," shrnuje důvody pro thajskou kuchyni Aleš, ale podotýka, že u nich najdete i jídla evropská, zláště italská. Ceny začínají od stovky, ale za ryby zaplatíte kolem dvou set. Tip Elle:karotkový krém s čerstvým zázvorem(i když ten zrovna thajský není...). Mňam!

The Lemon Leaf resturant is situated about two blocks west of Karlovo Náměstí and is a welcome addition to the neighborhood, which has seen the opening of this and two other notable establishments (The Tulip, see "The Brunch Bunch," and H2O) in the past three months. I must confess, I have been back to the resturant twice since my initial review visit. The Lemon Leaf menu consists of some unique and modern Thai and Italian dishes,a nice number of tasty soups - try the split pea soup, and an enlightening assortment of desserts. They offer a 99Kč special for lunch (weekdays), including soup and/or rice (in weaved basket). I tried the honeyed chicken wings on a bed of delicious spiced rice with cashews(127Kč). The menu calls them chicken "strips", I don't know why. I don't care. The meal tasted like sheer haven. Althought the rice, as we've also noticed with thier pasta dishes, was served with a bit too much olive oil, which may concern those watching their weight I didn't mind. My companions had the Nua Masaman Curry (137Kč) and the Penne au gratin with chicken, cream cheese, walnuts and mozzarella (116Kč). I had bites of the other dishes, excellent. And all of our meals were perfectly proportioned; one of us left just a little bit of rice at the end. Having visited both at lunch and dinner times, I apploud the designer in archieving a welcome atmosphere for both night and day. The deliciously high ceilings add to the cozy warmth of what at first may look like a cavernous cafeteria joint. The sheer size actually enhances the intimacy of Lemon Leaf's ambience, making you feel as thought you're the only ones there, even when the restaurant is full The large vibrant photography on the light yellow walls is just one more satisfying touch of style. The staff is as hospitable as they come. The only thing you want to avoid is thei coffee. Save that for your next trip into the Globe, which is just 20 meters due north.

BOTTOM LINE
There is only one thing to say about the Lemon Leaf cousine: The original Thai and Italian inspiration for their menu are indeed never set aside. What makes Lemon Leaf so special is how they've managed to craft their own style and taste - improving on the traditions so imaginatevily and, to the end, quite successfully.
RATING A

Náš komentář / Our comment:
Chicken strips we have already renamed. We are not native English speakers and that's why we have made this mistake. About the coffee - we underestand, that some people, especially those who had lived long time in the USA don't love Italian espresso. For those we offer filterred coffee in great qualitty. But we have to say, that our espresso - VESCOVI, which is made from careful selection of 8 Arabica coffee is maybe one of the best in town. It's buying price is more than two times higher than usual Segafredo being used in Globe and other restaurants all around. Those who love espresso will like it. Some say, that they have never drinked better coffe at all in all their life. I believe that editor of the Think magazine will order filtered American coffee next time and will like it. We carefully watch what people like and what not. And we have to say, that they like our espresso very much.
